Useful tricks for music producers in FL Studio
Do you want to make your work in FL Studio easier? I'm sure that you've
searched for ways of making your work easier and more organised. It's very
important that you keep everything you need close by.
I wrote another article about useful tips in FL Studio. If you want to
check them out click here
Before we get to the music related tips, I would like to start by giving
you a few tips about organising, so please pay attention!
You should start by organising the plug-ins and the presets that you have.
Yes, that's right, the plug-ins and the presets! Don't keep samples and plug-ins
that you do not use and won't use. I've customised my VST data base and this is
how it looks like:
This is the generators:
This is the effects
It's very important that you choose carefully the VSTs and the tools that
you work it. You should add the ones that you use the most in this database, so
that when you need it you can simply select it from here.
I've actually made a bit of cleaning in my samples recently. I've deleted a
lot of sounds, because I wasn't using most of them, and I wasn't going to use
them in the future.
I've customised this version of FL Studio. In other words, I modified it to
fulfil my own needs. You can do the same thing, and even though it will take
you some time, it will make you work more efficient.
A few tricks that will help the music producer
work more efficiently
Now, as I've promised, I will tell you a few tips. Do you have problems
with your drums? No matter what you choose it doesn't sound right or it doesn't
fit? I've been there, so I would like to recommend you the drum package from
Vengeance: Vengeance - Analogue Drums.
Maybe they won't fulfil all your needs, but definitely they will aid you.
Don't search on the internet for samples. Look for a professional pack and it
will do the job.
At a certain point I realised that I had thousands of samples in my
computer. One of my friends actually told me that he collected over 500GBs of
samples, and later on he told me that he kept only those that he actually needed.
My evolution as a music producer did speed up when I found the package from
Vengeance. Believe me, its worth every cent. Here you can see it's
presentation:
have been created using analogue equipment. Even further, there was no
compression used on them.
Everything is natural, so this is another reason you
should try them.
Believe me, by using hardware equipment you get a whole different result.
This is why the creators of this package called them :Analogue Drums.
Good, so now you have some high quality drums, but you need more than that.
You can't make a song by using just drums, you need professional sounds.
For that I recommend reFX Nexus (if you want to produce EDM), because it
has an enormous sound bank which you can use in your songs, thus being a very
powerful tool.
Nexus also has a lot of expansion packs, each one having as a target a
certain genre of music. My favourite package is "Sound of the 90s 2"!
You can listen to it here:
And now, my personal tip: create a few templates that you will work with.
Always have a project that you can start from. This way, when you will begin a
new project you will have everything already inserted, thus wining some extra
time to work on your creation.
A good template has the following elements: synth, bass, kick, snare, clap,
hat. With this template you can start a song from scratch. When you have an
idea you don't need to waste precious moments of inspiration by having to
insert drums and other stuff.
Maybe you already know this, and a possible negative outcome is that your
project might sound similar.
I had a friend which was doing so, starting all his projects from the same
template. He told me that he was doing everything that he could do to make his
projects sound unique, and after listening to some of his creations I realised
that most of his songs sounded different.
I hope that my tips will make you work more efficient in FL Studio. If you
have another tip or tips regarding music production, please share! I'm looking
forward to learning some of your tips and tricks!
I wish you'll find all the possible inspiration
in music production! And, of course, keep working on your dreams!
